Life in Fitness-LIFT, a wellness community for cancer survivors and thrivers in Richmond, Virginia.
Description: Our mission is to build a community of fitness, fun, and camaraderie among RVA cancer survivors. Whether you are healthy and out of treatment for 20 years or just working through it, we welcome you. LIFT provides free and low-cost group fitness activities with an emphasis on enjoying the outdoors. This group was not created as a single race or fundraising event, it provides opportunities for wellness and fellowship for women and men affected by cancer.
Activities are intended for all fitness levels, but please check with your doctor if you question whether an activity is right for you and before beginning an exercise program.
Bio: Heather Fairbanks, LIFT founder and organizer, was treated for breast cancer in 2011. Heather has always been a fan of fun fitness activities, including organizing backyard obstacle courses, captaining her college synchronized swimming team, participating in local running races and sprint triathlons, and most recently taking on open water swimming. She loves nothing more than a shared walk in the park, pizza, and possibly ice cream.
Heather works full time as a lawyer in the federal government. She and her husband live in Midlothian and can often be spotted enjoying the James River and beautiful park at Robious Landing.
